Treasures From The Shipwreck

Treasures From The Shipwreck draws inspiration from the concept of recreating paintings through photographs.

During the ideation process, I looked to photographer, Samantha Cavet’s photography projects which are inspired by paintings of well-known painters. From there, I looked into still life paintings and was immediately drawn to the texture, composition and contrasting colours of the recurring paintings with (sea)shells. Additionally, I knew that wanted to incorporate balance, an area I had hoped to explore more and improve on.

For the editing style, I challenged myself with a technique I had always wanted to try— painterly style effect. I knew that it was a style that could be easily overdone so for inspiration, I looked at projects by photographers, Saul Leiter and Erwin Olaf.
